Historic Orthodox Christianity And The Watchtower Bible & Tract
Society In Contrast
The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society claims to be God's representative
on earth, the only organization guided by God's Holy Spirit ... and ...
capable of understanding the meaning of the Holy Scriptures (Watchtower,
July 1, 1973, p.402); God's sole collective channel,for the flow of biblical
truth to men on earth (Watchtower, July 15, 1960, p.439); the Bible cannot
be properly understood without Jehovah's visible organization in mind (Watchtower,
Oct. 1, 1967).
If these claims are true, one would expect the teachings of the Watchtower
Bible & Tract Society to be in accord with the plain and basic teachings
of Scripture. If these claims are these, the Watchtower Bible and Tract
Society has to be considered disseminators of false doctrine, deceiving
and being deceived, a pseudo-Christian cult.
The following contrast between the Bible and the theology of the
Watchtower Bible & Tract Society (as represented by the Jehovah's Witnesses),
proves that JW's are victims of an organization representing anything but
the God of the Bible.
The Bible in Contrast with the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society:
|
Orthodox Christianity teaches
|
Jehovah's Witnesses teach
|
| there is only one true God: Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit, distinct Persons in the triune God head (Isa. 43:10,11; 44:6,8;
Mark 2:5-12; John 20:28; Heb. 1:8; Acts 5.-3,4,- 2 Car. 3:17,18) |
there is only one God (Jehovah) denying the triune nature of God (the
Trinity), stating that Satan is the originator of the trinity doctrine
(Let God Be True, p.100; Should You Believe in the Trinity?, p.31) |
| that Jesus Christ is the God/Man, Creator of all
things (John 1:1-3; 14; Col. 1:16) |
that Jesus is a god, a created being who was Michael the Archangel
before being born as a perfect man, raised a spirit creature, and is once
again know in heaven as Michael the Archangel (Reasoning from the Scriptures,
pp.217,218; 416,417); |
| the Holy Spirit is a Person, fully God (Acts 5:3,4;
2Cor. 3:17,18) |
the Holy Spirit is merely a powerful force that God causes to emanate
from himself to accomplish his holy will (Reasoning from the Scriptures,
p. 381 ;Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 1544) |
| salvation is provided by God through the atoning
work of Jesus Christ and is available to all who receive Him as Lord and
Saviour (Rom. 3:22-26; John 1:12;Acts 16:31; 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 7:24-2 6) |
that only an elite group of Witnesses, the 144,000, or the anointed
ones are presently credited with Christ's righteousness; they alone are
born-again and will reign with Christ in heaven (Reasoning from the Scripture,
pp. 308,309); all other people known as the other sheep or the great crowd
may have a chance at eternal 4fe on earth (Reasoning, p.309) |
| that we are saved by grace through faith apart from
self-righteous works (Eph. 2:8,9) |
salvation depends on one's works A person must first come to Jehovah's
organization for salvation ... and then comply with everything they teach
(Watchtower, Feb. 15, 1985, p. 16; July 1, 1947, p.204; Nov. 15, 1981,
p.21) |
| that the soul continues to exist consciously after
death (Isa. 14:9-11; Luke 1 6:19-31; Rev. 6:9-11), and those who reject
Christ as their Saviour will suffer conscious eternal punishment (eternal
separation from the presence of God (Matt.25: 41, 46;Rev. 14:10,11; 20:10,15) |
that the soul is not the immaterial aspect of a human being that survives
the death of the physical body (Reasoning from the Scrip tures, p.375);
that hell is a God-dishonoring doctrine and eternal punishment can nowhere
be found in the Bible (Reasoning from the from the Scriptures, p.175; that
death ends all conscious existence, Hell is the grave, and the fate of
the lost will be annihilation - they will simply cease to exist (Watch-tower,
Oct. 1989, pp. 3-7) |
| the plain truths of the Bible maybe understood by
all believers, being illumined and applied by the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:16;
1 John 2: 27) |
that the Bible can only be interpreted by the Watchtower Bible &
Tract Society, and no individual can learn truth apart from them (Watchtower,
Oct. 1, 1967; p.587; Dec. 1, 1990, p.19) |
